With my right hand mirror replaced with a good, 2nd hand one, it was time to head out again. It was a DD weekend because of ANZAC Day but that’s never worried me before and I wasn’t going to let it worry me again. I planned to do The Lap, around 160kms and be home mid-afternoon.
I had a fabulous run up the Pass and it was clear that many others were sharing my enthusiasm for this late-Autumn weather as the car park at the Pie Shop was crammed with both cars and bikes. I didn’t stop as I’d just had morning tea and the road was beckoning.
Much road repair has been done on the roads that lead down to Fitzroy Falls and the way ahead was clear, whoohoo. I got a great run down Barrengarry Mountain as well and it was all looking good. Until I got onto the flat leading into Kangaroo Valley and I caught up with a load of cars all heading my way and all out admiring the scenery.
I started to figure that it was going to stay that way, especially since the traffic heading OUT of the valley was pretty heavy and my suspicions were soon confirmed. Since the number of overtaking opportunities are limited between the bottom of the mountain and the town, I wheeled around at the “other” pie shop and headed home.
Again, I had a terrific run (where did all those cars go?) and, when I passed the Pie Shop, the car park was again full but there wasn’t a single bike to be seen, how did that happen?
A great run down the Pass with two motorists pulling over and letting me go by, whoopee, and home after a round trip of around 130kms.
MotoGP returns to a sensible schedule this weekend so I’m looking forward to being able to see all the sessions. Marc is supposed to be fit and ready to go and, after Rins’s win at COTA, it will be interesting to see how Marc goes on the Honda that is starting to look better.
I’m still in a state of confusion about whether to get another bike that is smaller and easier to manage, the trouble is that the choice is very limited. I guess I’ll just keep looking.
There’s only one speedway meeting left in the season now, Nowra on the 13th but the new calendar for the upcoming season shows that there is only one date where Nowra and Goulburn clash (Dec 11th) so it’s looking like I’ll be able to commentate at both venues for the season.
Catch you next time.
