They said the weather was going to be great today and it was. I didn’t have all day for a ride so I just decided on a little bimble up through the Southern Highlands.
Tourist Road is still rough but if you just concentrate on getting your lines right and ignore the lumps and bumps it’s not bad. No traffic made it even better.
Unfortunately, when I got to the Range Road turnoff there was a sign saying that road was closed. I don’t want you to think that I was looking forward to riding it but it was the most direct link to the Old South Road so I had to take the long way round. It actually ended up being even more of a detour as the next road out was also closed for repairs so I had to take the long way through Mittagong and then back onto the old Hume Highway via the Bargo turnoff.
I know I’ve said it before but it never ceases to amaze me that, in my lifetime, the old road through Tahmoor, Bargo and Picton WAS the highway. I well remember being queued up behind slow-moving trucks winding their way from Sydney to Melbourne.
From Picton I came home the quick way and got home, via Mount Keira Road, at a bit after 1. It was a neat little ride and not too cold, either. About 160km, or 100 miles in the old money.
Not much else to report on the bike front. Winter is coming so I guess I’d better get out the warmer gear. I’ve finally retired my Shark Vision R helmet. The visor is now pretty 2nd hand and it’s at the stage where it should be replaced anyway. The new Shark I bought a couple of years ago is comfy and light but it’s white so it doesn’t quite fit in with the predominantly red colour scheme.
Another nursing home concert yesterday, It’s always fun to watch how the oldies respond to the old songs.
Catch you.
Here’s Relive’s recording of the ride.
